Salver
Portugal, Madeira
1576 <> 1625
The decorative ornaments on this salver refer to the Eucharist and the Passion of Christ: the crown of thorns, the nails, the cross, the heart with five piercing wounds and a depiction of a Eucharist monstrance. These motifs are combined with the inscription CALICEM SALVTARIS ACCIPIAM (The cup of salvation I will raise) and the monogram IHS (Jesus Christ).
