Eucharist - Mystery of Light
2005
Temporary exhibition included in the year dedicated by the Catholic Church to the Eucharist.
It also celebrated the creation of the Diocese of Funchal on June 11, 1514, the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Museum of Sacred Art, on June 1, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Luiz Peter Clode, one of the founders of the Museum of Sacred Art.
The exhibition brought together works of art from the mid-sixteenth century to the last quarter of the eighteenth century, belonging to churches of the Diocese of Funchal, the Museum of Sacred Art, the Museum of Quinta das Cruzes and private collectors.
It was divided into three essential groupings: A. The Light of Truth and Life, B. Sources of Light, C. The Word That Illuminates.

An exceptional set of monstrances from the 16th to the 18th centuries, belonging to churches of the Diocese of Funchal, as well as a set of mannerist and baroque gold smithery–candlesticks, lanterns and lamps–was on display.
It was commissioned by Luiza Clode, with the collaboration of Francisco Clode de Sousa and Isabel Santa Clara. The project was implemented thanks to the support of the Museum Services Directorate of the DRAC and the Commission of Commemorations of the 500 years of the City of Funchal.
