Incense boat
Portugal
1589
The shape and the decoration of this incense-boat relate to the features of Portuguese Carracks (sailing cargo ships dating back to the time of the Overseas Discoveries). Looking closer, visitors should notice minutely carved details, such as the planks and nails on the ship’s hull. At the stern (the rear part of the ship), there is an inscription that reads the probable date of its execution ‘1589’.
