This example of the menologion for May bears a unique composition which favours bright, clashing colours. The saints are depicted as full-standing figures, with miniature details, in accordance with the iconographical canon.
On the upper border of the frame, apart from the inscribed title Month of May, the panel shows the icon of the Mother of God Starorusskaya, whose liturgical feast is celebrated on the 17th of May.
